about

PLOUK 15

On this cassette EP Hector M. Reis presents four philosophical excursions inspired by roman architecture.

After visiting Rome for the first time not long ago, deeply impressed by the roman culture in general and its feedback into today's life in the western hemisphere and beyond, this presented itself as a good topic for an extended mind journey.

The music attempts to create a link between the very impressive and inspirational original cities and buildings built by the ancient greeks and romans on the one hand and the churches and cathedrals of the european middle ages and now the contemporary megacities - specially those of present day China - on the
other hand.

These are of course not directly linked to the roman legacy itself - as China has a very rich history which unfolded in parallel - but now using the latest hi-tech to build these giant conglomerates that evolved from the greek/roman base.

These are not compositions but styled, layered and treated improvised performances, no metric beat grid is used, like a traditional recording on a tape machine.

The original motivation for these explorations was to create a sort of auto-therapy soundtrack for the deeper exploration of the unconscious.
The line of Kurzweil synthesizers was extensively used on these recordings together with a few other spicy ingredients.

Enjoy!
